Allah Almighty says in Holy Quran,
[067:005] And we have, (from of old), adorned the lowest heaven with Lamps, and We have made such (Lamps) (as) missiles to drive away the Evil Ones, and have prepared for them the Penalty of the Blazing Fire.
Arabic (from right to left):
‏67:5 ولقد زينا السماء الدنيا بمصابيح وجعلناها رجوما للشياطين واعتدنا لهم عذاب السعير
Now, the plural of the stars is definitely going to be in the feminine. This is because in Arabic, plural of the "its" (non human and non Angels and non jinns things) is always in the feminine. For example, you would use وَجَعَلْنَاهَا for plurals of:
1- Dogs.
2- Cats.
3- Mountains.
4- Rocks.
5- Insects.
6- Stars.
etc...
And even for nouns such as the following, we'd still use وَجَعَلْنَاهَا :
1- Armies.
2- Tribes.
3- Groups.
4- Arabs, Americans, Russians, etc...
The Stars are Missiles (رجوما):
So Allah Almighty here defined that the flaming fire that shoots down the Jinns does indeed originate from the Stars in the Universe! And as we've indisputably seen above, this is indeed a Scientifically True Statement! The Gamma Rays bursts and the Cosmic Jets, to say the least, do originate from the stars.
All Praise and Glory are due to Allah Almighty Alone!
The Verse may mean that the stars themselves are not pelted at the Satans, nor that the meteorites shoot out only to drive away the Satans, but it means that the countless meteorites which wander in space at tremendous speeds and which also fall to the earth in a continuous shower prevent the Satans of the earth from ascending to the heavens.
In Arabic the word shihab-i-mubin literally means "fiery flame". In XXXVII: 10, the same thing has been called shihab-i-thaqib ("flame that pierces through darkness"). 'This may or may not necessarily be a "meteor" for it is just possible that it may be some type of rays such as "Cosmic Rays" or even a stronger type which we have not been able to discover as yet. Anyhow if the "fiery flame" that pursues Satans may be taken to be a meteor, a countless number of these can form a fortification around our sphere of the universe.
But meteorites are physical objects and jinns are made of fire.But we also don't know about the physical nature of jinns when they ascend to heavens as jinns can change into many forms.May be they have some physical body when they ascend to heavens and are punished by physical objects in form of meteorites or the meteorites have some destructive interference effect by the light emitted from them on the light of jinns.Whether we consider,the authenticity of the verse still stands.
Similar difficulties may prevent the other creation of the earth, the jinns, from ascending towards the heavens as the ascend of man to heavens.
That reason is the fact that the Arabic language uses the word najm (stars) to refer to all heavenly bodies. So a luminous meteor (shihaab) may be a “najm”, a meteor (nayzak) may be a “najm” and a planet (kawkab) may be a “najm.”So it may be a meteor,meteorite,star or some thing else as Arabs call every heavenly body a najam.
“At this place, it should be borne in mind that early Greek scientists believed in meteors being terrestrial substance that rose up with vapours and would burn up when it reached the fire zone. But, the words of the Qur’an, as they appear here, seem to suggest that a meteor is not a terrestrial substance, rather, it is something generated only in the upper atmosphere. At this stage, earlier commentators have been saying all along that the Greek assumption about meteors – that it was some terrestrial substance – was no more than a conjecture.” – Tafsir Maar’iful Qur’an : Mufti Muhammad Shafi [db], pg 428.
Scientific observations made with the help of the telescope have shown that billions of these meteors are rushing from space in mass of "rainfall" towards the earth's atmosphere. Such a scene was witnessed in an eastern pan of North America on November 13, 1833. This is so strong a fortification that it can prevent Satans from passing through any fortified sphere.
Studies show that the solar wind has large effects on the tails of comets and even has measurable effects on the trajectories of spacecraft etc. The force exerted on the coma (atmosphere around the comet) by the Sun's radiation pressure and solar wind cause an enormous tail to form, which points away from the sun. A more detailed read on comets show (to me at least) how well its purpose fits with them being "made missiles for the devils".
"The visible light produced by a meteor may take on various hues, depending on the chemical composition of the meteoroid, and its speed through the atmosphere. As layers of the meteoroid are stripped off and ionized, the color of the light emitted may change according to the layering of minerals. Some of the possible colors and the compounds responsible for them are: orange/yellow (sodium); yellow (iron); blue/green (magnesium); violet (calcium); and red (silicate)."
The above mentioned facts form the scientific basis for the concept of Shooting Stars as mentioned in the Qur’an.
On many occasions scientists have differed on academics, therefore we cannot rely on science in our beliefs.

According to information given by the International Meteor Organization about the events of the 1993 shower (Astronomy, October 1993), the first results posted for the night of August 11th – 12th of that year came from Japan. Up to 20:30 UT on August 11th, the meteor rates were found to be normal, and a zenithal hourly rate (ZHR) of 40 meteors per hour (m/h) was tentatively assigned to the shower at that time.
However, preliminary data from European observers indicated that the rates gradually increased to a ZHR of the order of 100 m/h between 20:00 UT on August 11th and 01:00 UT onAugust 12th. Observers in France also reported a noticeable increase in rates after 00:30 UT, August 12th, with the rate being about twice the 'normal' rate. The rates continued to climb between 01:00 and 03:00 UT, and a preliminary ZHR of 200–250 m/h was ascribed to this period. The rates appeared to reach a maximum between 03:00 and 03:30 UT; the ZHR at its maximum was estimated to be of the order of 500 m/h. Later observations from the Canary Islands indicated that the rates began to decline after 04:00 UT.
Higher than normal rates were also reported by many observers in the United States and Japan. As observed by Martin Beech, in Astronomy, 1993 (pg 11), the results clearly indicated that the shower did not behave as predicted. Speculation about a possible meteor storm proved incorrect. Another unexpected feature in 1993 was the high number of bright fireballs observed. Observers reported something like five times the normal level of Perseid fireballs on the night of August 11th – 12th. The Perseid shower once again demonstrated how difficult it is to predict meteor shower activity.

The Perseid meteor shower observed in almost every year suggests that those meteors are shot for certain, important purposes. For they surprise the observers by showing great diversity. The observations made in, for example, 1993, demonstrate the fact that the structure of the shower is yet poorly known.
In order to physically understand how meteors and meteoric showers impact Devil, we need to know the physical nature of Devil(s). Since we don't know that, there can not be a physical explanation for this verse.
Secondly, the Quran uses the word "lamps", they don't have to refer to stars, they can just refer to energy sources creating light. In which case this can refer to quasars and anything else. If the Quran wanted to say that only stars can be used as missles, "najm" is a better word to use. But the Quran makes it clear that many other things including stars (in our classification) can refer to the missiles being throw.
Allah Almighty Said in the Glorious Quran:
[086:001] By the heaven and the Knocker الطارق (the celestial body that makes knocking sounds)!Tariq means “night visitor” or “star”, since stars appear at night. After the discovery of pulsars, which are highly magnetized, rotating neutron stars that emit powerful beams of electromagnetic radiation, some modern Muslim scholars say that tariq refers to these stars, and this interpretation fits the Quranic verse perfectly, because in Arabic tariq means ‘thing that knocks’, and pulsars were initially called ‘knocking stars’, stars that make a constant knocking sound when listened to on a radio receiver.
It seems that Guided Pulsar Rays (perhaps there are other stars as well) are used to shoot down the devils by Allah Almighty's Will.
Pulsars are Knocking and through their Gamma-Rays and high spinning speeds are Penetrating - Mentioned in the Noble Quran and confirmed by Science!

We know that the Universe is filled with shooting and smokeless fire. One of those is Gamma Ray bursts that also generate shooting Cosmic Jets.
Our Sun is a "Giant Plasma Weapon".
You can further research "Coronal Mass Ejections" or CME's on Youtube for ample more videos. They are Solar X-Rays that eject extremely powerful energy and trillions of particles traveling at 8 million kilometers per hour deep into space. Our sun is a "Giant Plasma Weapon".
While I can not pin point exactly what and which fire in the Universe is the shahab (شهب) or shahaab (شهاب) that Allah Almighty talked about, but from what we know, it is quite feasible to say that the Shahab (شهب) Fire may be the Gamma Ray bursts or something similar to them. It could also be something that is generated from such fire, such as the Cosmic Jets that scientists have discovered.
So in other words, we have the Fire and we have the shooting jets (shahabs) that are generated from it.
So why can't we detect the Jinns then as we detect the invisible Gamma Ray Bursts?The verses in question don't say that meteros, asteroids, or stars are hurled at the Jinn. Rather, they say that the Jinn are prevented from penetrating the heights of the heavens by flares which emanate from the stars that have been decked in the lowest heaven (the Universe).
It may mean that the conjunctions of radiations from different celestial sources neutralise the effect of each other and it becomes immeasurable and incomprehensible to those who try to foretell the future.
The Jinns could very well be much different from the Gamma Rays or whatever Cosmic Rays and Fire they've been created from. So yes, it is quite possible and feasible that we could detect the raw material in space, but not the Jinns.
we know that the created is quite different from the material that he was created from. There could be more material that they were created from that makes them undetectable in space.
Scientists always admit that there is so many things that get fed into their radars and systems, from outer space, that are mysterious and unknown. They range from signals to rays to sounds to chemicals reactions to unknown matter, anti-matter, strange matter (with strangeletes that could easily destroy a planet like earth), unknown energy, unknown forces with unknown properties, etc.... This is something that no one in our age, thus far, could answer in either way.But According to Islam,jinns are made of fire and science has theorized that fire based life forms can exist.So if other fire based life forms exist,then how can the existence of jinns be denied while according to islam,they are also made of fire.The science itself is confirming the concept of islam that fire based life forms exist.According to Islam,jinns are made of fire and science has theorized that fire based life forms can exist.

Allah Almighty reminding us of how little we are: "....You have been given of knowledge nothing except a little. (The Noble Quran, 17:85)"
The stars themselves could also be used as missiles. Stars actually move at relativistic speeds, if you move considerably slower than them, to you they would be going fast. Remember that time is relative. So if stars move faster than you, then they could be used as missiles. Our own sun goes at 220 km/s.And GOD does not say that stars follow jinns but HE says that the blazing flame of light follows them and that flame can travel at the speed of light.Even for a moment,we consider the jinns to be followed by the stars,then how can not GOD do so.How HE can be called GOD if HE can not do so.

Narrated 'Aisha:
I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "The angels descend, the clouds and mention this or that matter decreed in the Heaven. The devils listen stealthily to such a matter, come down to inspire the soothsayers with it, and the latter would add to it one-hundred lies of their own."
A similar hadith is reported in Sahih Bukhari Volume 9, Book 93, Number 650
this is all just a matter of faith.
If stars are moving, cant they then while they are moving be used as missiles to drive away the Jinn?
Many physicists claim that worm hole travel is possible. Imagine going through a worm hole and being randomly tossed to a random point in the universe. And you happen to be tossed near a moving star. Looks like you are out of luck.
I would like to bring wormholes in light of the following Noble Verse:
[015:014] And even if We open to them a gateway بابا of heaven السماء, so that they ascend into it all the while,
[015:015] They would certainly say: Only our eyes have been covered over, rather we are an enchanted people.

Some people say that to reach lower heavens or the edges of universe,jinns should travel more than the speed of light and the flame following them should be more than their speed at which time will not move and so it is against the laws of quantum physics. BUT Why should God have to follow that laws of physics? He created them, they do not control Him, He could alter and change them any way He likes.so even if jinns travel at speed of light,God can control them
Remember one of the points is that if jinn travel so fast (which they must at least at the speed of light, and even then it would take quadrillions of years to even reach farther galaxies) how is a star even able to hit them.they have assumed that jinns travel at the speed of light.even when jinns travel at the speed of light,GOD can use stars of light more than the speed of light to follow them and universe is large.
We absolutely CANNOT make little statements of yours about Jinn, since alot of knowledge about their abilities are not told to us.
Jinns are creatures we know close to nothing about, who knows what speeds they use or what means they use to try and get to the diffirent heavens.
We dont clearly know that to which distance and heights in universe, jinns travel but even if they travel to the ends of universe,they can travel at the speed of light as they are made of fire,a form of light and light can travel at the speed of light and they can even travel more than the speed of light as there are things in universe which can travel faster than the speed of light and the light following them can travel more than their speed and catches them and then destroys them by destructive interference between the waves of light.
